Back to School for Danielle Hope

0

Unlike Sophie Evans, who is considering whether to return to school or not, Danielle Hope is clear that she has exams to finish before even thinking about all the preparation that’s going to be needed for the role of Dorothy in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Wizard Of Oz at the London Palladium next year. In any case, rehearsals don’t even start until December.

Danielle is studying dance, theatre studies and musical theatre for her A-levels. But she had to quit the dance course after the heavy rehearsal schedule for the show meant she missed her final exam.

Videos of Danielle’s performances in Over The Rainbow were submitted as evidence of coursework to be graded by examiners at Knutsford High School which I think is brilliant! There’s even a ticker display on their website which says:

“All staff and students at Knutsford High School would like to congratulate Danielle Hope on winning BBC’s Over the Rainbow.”

Danielle said

I have my last theatre exam on the June 9 and I’m hoping to sit that. I’m going to have to cram the week before, read a couple of plays and write something, but the qualifications are important. I started them and I did really well, so it would be a shame to quit.

In the immediate aftermath of winning Over The Rainbow Danielle has been spotted on TV morning chat shows and the like, but all that might have to stop once she gets her head down to studying again.

It’s cute isn’t it? I mean Danielle could have just decided – that’s it, I’m a big star already, I shall immediately start living the lifestyle and milking it for all I can get before the publicity fades. But no, she’s just an ordinary girl with a great talent and a sensible head on her shoulders. There’ll be plenty of time for the West End lights next year when Danielle will be working flat out five days a week at the London Palladium.

Danielle Hope, Winner

Danielle Hope was declared the winner of the Dorothy casting show, Over the Rainbow tonight.
After the announcement by Graham Norton, Danielle smiled and hugged fellow finalist Sophie Evans.

She genuinely laughed off Norton’s remark that she was now a West End star, but of course she is! Then Danielle thanked everyone involved, including the audience, backstage crew, judging panel and the other girls.

All I can say is thank you but it really does come from in here, It feels like not enough but I am just so grateful. We all are for this amazing opportunity.

Andrew Lloyd Webber said he was really pleased with the result chosen by the nation, which had never been wrong yet.

You’re the most fantastic, talented kid with a huge future ahead, Now the hard work starts but my goodness me, you can act from the soul and that is something that’s very special.

The show ended with Danielle’s rendition of Over the Rainbow, the hit song from the Wizard of Oz.

Will our Danielle be singing this song as Dorothy eight times a week in The Wizard of Oz from next March?
