Graham Norton Backs Danielle Hope Vote

0

In a press release about the future of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s reality casting shows such as Over The Rainbow, host Graham Norton also mentioned that he backed the public decision to vote Danielle Hope as winner.

Graham Norton has confirmed he would love to host another show searching for a new West End star.

The Irishman had lots of fun presenting Over The Rainbow, which saw Manchester teenager Danielle Hope crowned the new Dorothy in The Wizard Of Oz.

But he admitted the shows are “really hard to tie up” as there are several necessary ingredients.

Speaking on the red carpet at the Bafta television awards, Graham said: “I’d love to [do another show]. I really enjoyed doing those shows. Those shows are really hard to put together because you need Andrew, you need a musical the public like, and you need a West End theatre. It’s really hard to tie it up.”

Last month, a report claimed that Lord Lloyd Webber was ready to quit the BBC after four shows in favour of a move to ITV.

Graham said that, were this to happen, he could not follow the musical theatre impresario because of his own contract with the Beeb.

Asked if it would be tough seeing someone else doing his job, he said: “Tough is a big word – it would be a bit weird but then I could watch the show and wouldn’t even have to go, so on another level, I’d get to enjoy them and my Saturday.”

The Bafta host also backed the public’s decision to vote Danielle Hope the winner of the latest contest, calling her “terrific”.

Danielle Hope’s Drama Teacher and other Supporters

3

Danielle Hope’s Drama Teacher at Knutsford High School has been an enthusiastic supporter of Danielle’s talent not just during school hours in Greater Manchester over the past seven years, but also at the Over The Rainbow Studio on Saturdays. Helen Mayne travelled to London each Saturday to cheer on her student from the live studio audience. During filming for the BBC show Danielle publicly thanked Ms Mayne for supporting her dreams of becoming a performer.

Now the school has congratulated Danielle Hope in public:

Staff, governors and classmates have joined the chorus of congratulations for Cheshire East’s ‘Over the Rainbow’ winner Danielle Hope.

Millions tuned into the TV talent search on Saturday night to see the Knutsford High School student beat her two rivals to the coveted role of Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz.

The school community has supported Danielle every step of the way during her four-month journey – and perhaps no-one more so than drama teacher Helen Mayne.

Ms Mayne said

Everybody at Knutsford High School is incredibly proud of everything Danielle has achieved. To be the person considered by the public and Andrew Lloyd Webber to be the best out of 9,000 contenders for the lead in a West End production is a monumental feat. Having worked with Danielle since Year 7, I have never had any doubt that she had the necessary drive, talent and perseverance. Throughout her time with us she has proved herself to be the kind of performer who will give 100 percent every time she steps out on stage. It has been a rollercoaster four months but there was never any question that Danielle deserved to win. I am hugely excited for the show’s opening next year and will be in the audience to watch Danielle fulfil her dream.

Cheshire East Councillor George Walton, a Knutsford High School governor, said:

Danielle is a delightful ambassador for the school and a credit to the performing arts department, who do a wonderful job of nurturing the many talented students who pass through the school. Despite having rather a lot on her plate at the moment, Danielle remains committed to her studies and is returning to school in June to sit her theatre exams. We are all looking forward to seeing her again and passing on our best wishes. I will be following her career with interest – she is clearly destined for great things.

Councillor Hilda Gaddum, Cabinet member with responsibility for children and families, said:

On behalf of Cheshire East Council, I would like to offer my warmest congratulations to Danielle. She is an enormously talented young lady with a bright future ahead of her. It is extremely heartening to see that, despite having won the most coveted West End role of the moment, Danielle is returning to school to complete her exams. She clearly appreciates the importance of education and I applaud her for setting such a marvellous example to young people. I wish Danielle all the very best in her exams and her performing career.

Danielle Hope was declared the winner of the Dorothy casting show, Over the Rainbow tonight.
After the announcement by Graham Norton, Danielle smiled and hugged fellow finalist Sophie Evans.

She genuinely laughed off Norton’s remark that she was now a West End star, but of course she is! Then Danielle thanked everyone involved, including the audience, backstage crew, judging panel and the other girls.

All I can say is thank you but it really does come from in here, It feels like not enough but I am just so grateful. We all are for this amazing opportunity.

Andrew Lloyd Webber said he was really pleased with the result chosen by the nation, which had never been wrong yet.

You’re the most fantastic, talented kid with a huge future ahead, Now the hard work starts but my goodness me, you can act from the soul and that is something that’s very special.

The show ended with Danielle’s rendition of Over the Rainbow, the hit song from the Wizard of Oz.

One bookmaker has Danielle Hope as Odds-On 4-5 favourite to win the Over The Rainbow grand final on Saturduy night.

Coral bookmakers have lowered the odds on the Manchester lass from an original 8-1 chance when the betting opened, but have clearly been taking more money on Danielle than either of the other two finalist, Sophie and Lauren who are listed at  2-1 and 7-2 respectively in a difficult contest to predict, with the favourite changing six times since the first week
